The Airport.

The Portland International Airport hosted a "Air Fair" today. Part of the family went to it, and it was really fun. They had a 45 min tour of the airfield on a big bus. The tour guy was a pretty high ranking official and talked pretty much the whole time. For instance, to keep geese and other birds away they have remote controlled propane cannons that make a loud noise to scare the geese away. Stuff that you would never think of.

A short overview of the past month plus a funny video

• We had a three to five day flu.
• After that our good friends from CA came up for two weeks.
• For one week that our friends were here we went over to the coast for a week with our church for our anual Family Camp
• The next week we took a day and drove over to Central Oregon.
• Standing on a trailer with a bunch of chickens is quite a bonding expreince...not with the chickens but with a bunch of guys...Did I mention that we are gutting the chickens at this point......The only type of chicken bonding that goes on is that I now know the anatomy of a chicken very well.
• It is hot right now.
• It is supposed to get hotter.
• I hope it doesn't get much hotter
• The hot part is over...We were at an outside wedding where at 5:00 the temp was 103 degrees.

Mount Hood and a walk through the snow

A couple of weeks ago, Mother, in search of the perfect Birthday present embarked on a journey that would cover thousands of miles....not really, but it did require looking on the Internet and she found a two hour blacksmith class. She booked it and yesterday (Saturday) we drove up to Government Camp on the base of Mount Hood for it. They had a great time and during it the rest of us decided to take a hike. When we go to the parking lot for the hike we had to walk down a snowed over road to get to the summer parking were the hiking trail actually started. So we embarked on our two hour hike sliding our way through wet snow. Not slushy but wet. We spent about two hours trying to find a lake and never found it. In the processes we did get several portraits. After two hours with our tennis shoes filled with wet (or melted ) snow we went back to pick up Scott and Dad. Then together we visited Timberline. A historic lodge on the timberline of Mount Hood. It was beautiful. :-) Pictures Below ;-)

Granddad arrived yesterday for a two week stay with us. Yaaaaaaay :-) During the course of his stay we are going to have lots of different field trips (More on that later.).

Yesterday was very cloudy but around 7ish the sun peaked out underneath the cloud cover and made an incredible photo opportunity. Who can resist?

A Couple of days hard work...in the sun. Part 2

I meant to add this photo I took of a book called "Do Hard Things".

The past couple of days have been HOT!!!!! Breaking the record on Friday tipping the scales at 97 degrees. On Thursday at a temp of 87 degrees I sandblasted a 20 foot trailer. To do it I had to wear a heavy coat and a heavy canvass hood over my face...to protect me from the sand...but not from the sun :-(. While I did that, Dad, Andrew and Daniel worked through the rough brush and ran a fence at the back of the back yard. In the process Andrew managed to cover his arm all over with Poison Oak.

Yesterday we worked in the morning and then in the afternoon Scott and I when bowling in a semi-air conditioned bowling alley.

Today Dad and Andrew finished the fence while I weed-whacked. There are pictures below...As usual :-)

Lots of Stuff

Sorry that I haven't written in a while, but lots of stuff has been going on. On Saturday I attended a one day conference done by The Rebelution http://www.therebelution.com/. The conference was about how teenagers have been handicapped by society's low expectations of them and how they have dropped to meet those expectations. The cool thing is that 2 teenagers started it, and the whole conference was arranged by teens!

On Sunday we had Deacon's meeting at our place. We set up the volleyball net and played for hours. It was really fun. To prove how much fun it was Dad, Scott, Andrew, and I went out this evening and played two on two. We had a delightful time.

What my Aunt like to say:

Jacob's Birthday

Happy Birthday Jacob. For Jacob's 6th birthday (which was yesterday) we had a quiet dinner with some adopted grandparents from church. After dinner we did presents and had pound cake and strawberries. For presents he got money to buy himself some fish to put in an old aquarium that we had been storing. Sounds awfully fishy doesn't it. A couple of months ago I made a video to celebrate his adoption anniversary. Here it is



Now on Sunday we are having his official birthday party consisting of having two of Jacob's friends and their respective families.

The Tulip Fields

On this gorgeous, partly cloudy day we went to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm with Aunt Debbie and with a friend from church. It was absolutely beautiful. We chose a perfect day to go. Not too cloudy and not too sunny However it was sunny enough to give me a sunburn. Afterwords we went to the friend's house and she made an impromptu dinner for us. It was good. She took pastrami, heated it up in a frying pan, and then serves it on a bread with mustard, no mayo, mind you. After that we came home to put away groceries and clean up a bit.

They had really neat tractors there.

Andrew was having trouble starting it.

So he applyed the choke.

Ahh, the wonderful melodies of *SNORK*. There are 4 people in our household that *SNORK* every once in a while. Some of them have colds and some of them have allergies.

In our orchard today we noticed that there were 2 Canadian Geese. It was rather interesting. Picture for proof:

Yesterday as part of a home school activity Andrew, Daniel, Jacob, and I went on a canoe ride on the Willamette River. It was on a replica of an Indian war canoe that the captain built. During it we saw about eight different sea lions. I didn't bring my camera with me becuase I was scared that it would get wet. However Mother stayed because she didn't want to get sea sick and she took this photo.

Back to old subject:

Part of this virus is a sleeping virus. Daniel has taken a nap the past couple of days (amazing) and I took a 3 1/2 hour nap on Sunday (Even more amazing)(Part of it might be that I slept horrible that night).

Spring is here :-)

Spring is the time of year when a young man's thought turn towards... chickens. Yep 750 chickens came today and are currently occupying our barn. Over the course of the next 8 weeks they will grow to about 6 lbs. a bird and eat more then 20 lbs of feed. We will raise a total of 2,250 chickens over the summer ending in August. The Aftermath

Let me see, the aftermath 2+2=5, 2-1=3. Yup, it's that bad. After a vacation we tend to take a while to recuperate. Mother says it takes about half as long as a vacation was to get over it. We all sort of feel like this.

Anyways, no more math. It's giving me a headache. Know what I mean?

April 5th. - The Mission and The End

The last day on our vacation dawned cloudy and humid. We went to the San Diego Mission with Uncle Rick and Tia Vero (Spanish for Aunt Veronica). It was interesting. Most of it had been taken apart to build different buildings and was rebuilt. They had flowers there and I enjoyed taking pictures of them. Our flight home was uneventful. We flew to home with one stop at Sacramento. It was really nice because we didn't even have to get off the plane. After we found our car at 8:00 PM we drove to a Red Robin for dinner then home to arrive at 10:00. Pictures below:
